According to Folha de S.Paulo, the Brazilian Federal Police barred the entry of an American citizen in Brazil because he had a conviction in the US for pedophilia. The man, whose name was not disclosed to the press, arrived at 6:00 am, at the Galeão International Airport, in Rio de Janeiro, in a flight coming from the US.

Based on an interministerial ordinance edited, on May 22 2014, by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and the Secretariat of Human Rights of the Presidency, which does not allow the entry in the country of foreign people who practiced sex crimes against minors in their countries of origin, the man was deported on a flight at 11:00 pm. According to the Federal Police, the man had been convicted of molesting a 16 year old minor.

He was the first foreign person to be barred from entering the country, based on this new decree, which serves as a prevention measure, since the man had already served his time and, therefore, he wasn't a fugitive from American justice system.

The federal police also said there wasn't any information that the man was coming to Brazil to abuse children or teens, but the ordinance determines that people who have a dirty record for committing these crimes can not be admitted in Brazil.

According to the federal police, the American embassy in Brasília was the institution that informed Brazilian authorities that the man had embarked and was coming to Rio.
